I did not plan for this

If you have a newborn who has been delivered and there’s something wrong with them, it can be an extremely sensitive and challenging situation to navigate.

As a pediatrician with over 18 years of experience, I have had to deal with this situation many times. In this blog post, I want to share with you three things that you can do to help you manage this difficult situation.

The first thing you can do is to be in the moment and be present. It’s natural to feel overwhelmed and anxious about the situation, but it’s important to focus on what’s happening right now with your baby. Try to avoid worrying about the future or dwelling on what could have been different if certain things had happened. By being in the moment, you can better understand what your baby needs and make informed decisions.

The second thing you can do is to trust the process and trust yourself. There are medical experts around you who can help you understand what’s going on and seek answers. Trust yourself to make the right decisions for your baby and your family.

There is no one right way to react to a difficult situation like this, but by trusting the process and yourself, you can feel more confident and empowered to make the best choices for your family.

The third thing you can do is to take time to care for yourself. This is a challenging and stressful time, and it’s important to take care of yourself so that you can show up fully for your baby. This could mean staying hydrated, getting enough sleep, taking walks, and reaching out to friends and family for support.

If you find these tips helpful, I also invite you to check out the newborn preparation course I offer at Newborn Prep Academy. The course covers a range of topics related to newborn care, including how to be prepared for your baby’s arrival, how to care confidently for your newborn, and how to choose the right pediatrician. You can find more information about the course and free resources on our website.

Remember, there is no one right way to react to a difficult situation with your newborn. However, by being present, trusting the process and yourself, and taking care of yourself, you can navigate this challenging time with more confidence and clarity.
